A woman kidnapped from her home in Gayi village, Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has been freed after her family met the kidnappers’ demands by paying a ransom of N1.5 million along with N20,000 worth of airtime recharge cards.
The victim, Nafisa Bala Usman, regained her freedom on Friday and was retrieved by her family members in Goron Dutse village, Suru Local Government Area, a location far from where she was originally abducted.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Kebbi, Alhaji Dalhatu Gayi, elder brother to Nafisa’s husband, confirmed her release and noted that she was found to be in good health.
“We appreciate everyone who supported us, especially the Kalgo LGA chairman, for their efforts in ensuring her safe return,” he said.
Gayi extended his appreciation to Kalgo Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Yahya Kuka, as well as relatives and well-wishers who helped raise the ransom funds.
He also urged security operatives to ramp up surveillance around Goron Dutse, which he claimed has become a suspected hub for criminal activity.
He alleged that the kidnappers, believed to be predominantly Fulani, are working with unnamed informants, thereby endangering surrounding communities.
As of press time, the Kebbi State Police Command had not released an official comment on the case.
