Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have apprehended two individuals suspected of drug trafficking, identified as Muntari Shu’aibu and Imrana Rabi’u.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the duo was arrested with six bales (cartons) of suspected illicit drugs, specifically Tramadol, with an estimated street value exceeding $92,000 (approximately N150 million).
The CP revealed that the arrest was made possible through a well-coordinated, intelligence-driven sting operation launched by the Command following a credible tip-off.
He emphasized that the operation is part of the Command’s broader efforts to tackle the root causes of violent crimes, which he said are largely fueled by the trafficking and misuse of illicit substances.
“We therefore, remain committed and determined to use all resources within our reach to guarantee the safety and well-being of the citizens,” CP Bakori stated.
The suspects, he further disclosed, have since been transferred to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Command, for more detailed investigations and possible prosecution.
“This is in line with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, directives and policy on inclusive policing, and in the spirit of strengthening inter-agency synergy among security organizations,” he said.
CP Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to work hand-in-hand with other security bodies to confront drug-related offenses and other criminal activities across the state.
“The fight against drug trafficking and abuse in the state and country at large, remains a collective one. The Command reiterates its commitment to collaborating with other security agencies in combating all forms of crimes and criminality in the state,” he added.
