The lingering conflict within the Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has taken a new turn with the resignation of Christian Usulor, a former governorship aspirant.
Usulor, a three-term lawmaker representing Ezza South Constituency in the Ebonyi State Assembly, announced his departure in a letter to his ward chairman, citing the persistent crisis and factionalization within the party.
Usulor’s resignation comes after the party’s National Working Committee appointed a caretaker committee, which sparked fresh discord among party members.
He criticized the appointment of individuals from other political parties to the committee, which he believed exacerbated the crisis, according to NaijaNews.
Usulor expressed gratitude to the party for his political growth and development but stated that his resignation would allow him to explore new political opportunities aligning with his aspirations and those of his supporters.
He promised to announce his future political plans after consulting with his family, political followers, and associates.
The development further weakens the PDP’s position in Ebonyi State, following the defection of numerous party leaders to the All Progressives Congress after the 2023 general elections.
The party’s efforts to restore peace have yet to yield a lasting solution, and Usulor’s resignation may trigger more defections.
