Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, has sparked excitement with bold remarks about Barcelona’s rising star, Lamine Yamal, following the youngster’s standout display in their thrilling 3-3 draw against Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-final first leg at Camp Nou.
Yamal dazzled both fans and pundits, prompting comparisons to some of football’s greatest ever players.
At just 17, the winger has already racked up 100 appearances for Barcelona, notching an impressive 22 goals and 33 assists.
Speaking on CBS Sports after the match, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher praised Yamal’s performance, saying it was “like watching Messi in his heyday.”
Henry, however, took the admiration a step further, hinting that Yamal could one day eclipse footballing legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“We can talk about a lot of guys who are supposed to be on the throne and whatnot,” Henry said. “But one thing that amazes me about football is that you always think there is no way someone is going to be better – or might be better – than Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo. Or in my time, Pele or [Diego] Maradona… And then Yamal arrives.”
With the return leg set for next week at San Siro, all eyes will be on Yamal to see if he can continue his electrifying form on one of football’s biggest stages.
