The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 16-year-old boy, Solomon Ibiwoye, after he was found carrying a firearm in the Ebute-Ero area of Lagos.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed the arrest in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, applauding residents whose alertness led to the boy’s capture.
“Kudos to observant Lagosians who noticed 16-year-old Solomon Ibiwoye with a firearm and discreetly alerted Ebute-Ero Police Division,” Hundeyin stated.
Following the boy’s arrest, a search was conducted at his residence where officers recovered a locally fabricated pistol and one unspent cartridge.
“One more firearm off the streets,” Hundeyin added, emphasizing that investigations are currently underway to uncover further details surrounding the incident.
While Hundeyin did not immediately reveal how the minor obtained the weapon or whether he was affiliated with any criminal network, he assured the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated.
He also urged Lagosians to maintain vigilance, stressing, “See something, say something!”
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of public cooperation with law enforcement in efforts to curb crime in the state.
