AC Milan kept their European ambitions alive with a 2-0 victory over struggling Venezia at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo on Sunday.
Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez found the net to seal an important win for the Rossoneri, who are pushing to secure continental football for next season.
Milan, who booked their spot in the Coppa Italia final with a dominant 3-0 second-leg triumph over Inter on Wednesday, wasted no time asserting themselves as Pulisic punished Venezia’s defensive lapse to open the scoring just five minutes in.
Despite falling behind early, Venezia took control of the remainder of the first half, carving out numerous opportunities but failing to level the score.
Their missed chances proved costly, as Milan struck again deep into stoppage time. Gimenez latched onto Tijjani Reijnders’s free-kick delivery, calmly slotting home to wrap up the points.
The win lifts Milan to ninth in Serie A with 54 points, three behind the top seven, although their rivals for European spots still have games to play later in the day.
Venezia, meanwhile, remain mired in relegation trouble, sitting second from bottom on 25 points, just one adrift of 17th-placed Lecce, who are yet to face Atalanta.
For Pulisic, it was a landmark moment. His goal marked his 16th across all competitions this season, the highest tally of his career in Europe’s top five leagues.
In Serie A alone, Pulisic has scored 10 times in the 2024-25 campaign, matching teammate Reijnders, who also reached double figures.
Remarkably, the last time Milan had two midfielders score 10 or more goals in a single league season was back in 1972-73, when Alberto Bigon (10) and Gianni Rivera (17) achieved the feat.
Further highlighting his influence, Pulisic stands as one of just three players in Serie A to have contributed directly to at least 50 goals across all competitions over the past two seasons, joining Ademola Lookman (50) and Lautaro Martinez (54) in that elite group.
