The Labour Party has petitioned the Delta State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal to cancel the recent council poll in Aniocha South Local Government Area.
The party alleges “substantial non-compliance with the provisions of the electoral act” and faults the declaration of Jude Chukwunweike of the Peoples Democratic Party as the winner, according to Leadership.
In its petition, the LP names the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, Chukwunweike, and the PDP as respondents.
The LP claims that the election did not hold in many wards, disenfranchising thousands of voters due to the absence of voting materials.
Additionally, the party asserts that its agents did not sign the result sheets, which DSIEC allegedly falsified to declare the PDP candidate the winner.
“We argue that the election did not occur in nearly all DSIEC wards in Aniocha south, leaving thousands of eligible voters unable to exercise their franchise due to the absence of voting materials at their units. None of our agents signed the purported result sheets that DSIEC allegedly falsified to declare the PDP candidate winner,” the LP said.
