La Liga president Javier Tebas has accused Real Madrid of intimidating match officials ahead of today’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.
Tebas claimed that Los Blancos, through their affiliated channel RMTV, have been fueling negative narratives against the referees and even pushing for their removal.
However, the Spanish Football Federation dismissed Real Madrid’s request, prompting Carlo Ancelotti’s side to boycott their scheduled press conference and pre-match training session.
Taking to X, Tebas lashed out, “He dislikes Tebas because I don’t bow to his demands. He resents Ceferin because he won’t obey him. He distrusts Louzan for not falling under his sway. He rejects TV commentators who refuse to echo his views,” Tebas wrote.
“He turned down reforms simply because they didn’t favoir him. Now, after relentless pressure from Real Madrid TV and the referees’ firm response, he retaliates, canceling press engagements, abandoning training, disrespecting the competition, and shunning the final. He doesn’t voice concerns; he issues threats. He doesn’t seek change; he seeks control.
“The real danger isn’t just his desire to dominate football—it’s the fact that certain circles enable, excuse, and even assist him,” he added.
