Bayer Leverkusen kept Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga title celebrations on hold for at least another week with a 2-0 victory over Augsburg on Saturday.
Leverkusen, sitting on 67 points, remain eight points adrift of Bayern, who can clinch their 34th league title with a win at RB Leipzig next week.
Patrik Schick opened the scoring in the 13th minute, firing in from the edge of the area with Leverkusen’s first major opportunity to register his 19th goal of the season.
Leverkusen thought they had doubled their advantage shortly after when Nathan Tella headed home at the far post, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
However, they did not have to wait much longer. In first-half stoppage time, Emiliano Buendia curled a shot past goalkeeper Finna Dahmen, sealing the three points for the hosts.
