Algeria U-17 women’s head coach, Abdenor Mira, has vowed that his team will put up a strong fight when they take on Nigeria’s Flamingos in the first leg of their final qualifying fixture for the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The encounter is scheduled to hold today (Saturday) at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, with Nigeria widely tipped as favourites to advance, given their impressive track record at this level.
Despite acknowledging the strength of Bankole Olowookere’s side, Mira expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness and determination to secure a positive outcome in Nigeria.
“We are on the ground in Nigeria after our deserved qualification against Tunisia and the second round against Botswana,” the coach stated in his pre-match comments.
“We do not compare ourselves to Nigeria but we are determined after this motivation of two qualifiers. It is the third qualifying round for the World Cup. My players are aware of the mission that awaits them, they will give their all.”
Nigeria’s Flamingos, who boast of a rich history in the competition, are aiming to take full advantage of home support in the first leg before heading to Algeria for the return fixture.
