Amid rising violence in Plateau, Benue, and other regions, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday held a high-level security meeting with service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
The closed-door meeting, which commenced shortly after 3:00 p.m., took place at the President’s official residence and follows Tinubu’s return from an 18-day working visit to Paris and London.
According to The PUNCH, the discussions are focused on the recent wave of killings and displacement caused by armed attacks, particularly in the North-Central region. In Benue State alone, at least 56 people were killed in Logo and Gbagir communities during recent coordinated assaults, allegedly by armed herders. Reports also indicate that thousands of residents have been displaced, with homes set ablaze despite the presence of security forces.
“The President is deeply disturbed by the rising death toll and the displacement of citizens,” a senior presidential aide disclosed. “This meeting is meant to review the situation and strengthen security strategies across the most affected areas.”
President Tinubu was said to have maintained communication with security heads during his time abroad, receiving regular updates and issuing directives remotely. Now back in Abuja, sources say he is prioritizing immediate, on-ground coordination to tackle the crisis.
National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, was also present at the meeting, which is expected to lead to further deployment of anti-bandit squads and enhanced collaboration among military units.
