Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, was awarded the prestigious ‘Best Recording of the Year’ for her powerful track “Burning” at the 17th edition of The Headies Awards.
The event was held on Sunday night at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Tems’ “Burning” triumphed in a highly competitive category that featured standout tracks such as “Different Pattern” by Seyi Vibez, “Higher” by Burna Boy, “Last Heartbreak Song” by Ayra Starr featuring Giveon, and “Billions” by Sarz featuring Lojay.
The Headies Awards, celebrated for recognizing excellence in the Nigerian music industry, made its return to Nigeria this year after hosting two consecutive editions in Atlanta, Georgia.
The 2025 ceremony saw the presentation of 31 categories, including ‘Artiste of the Year,’ ‘Song of the Year,’ and ‘Next Rated,’ showcasing the breadth of talent within the industry.
Tems’ win in the ‘Best Recording of the Year’ category highlights her continued influence on the global music scene, following her Grammy win earlier this year for ‘Best African Music Performance.’
