The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has enjoined Islamic faithfuls to pray for a peaceful transition of power following the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
Lawan stated this in his Ramadan message on Wednesday evening.
He said, “Ramadan is a glorious opportunity for the Islamic faithful to thank Allah for His mercies on us as individuals and as a nation and to further seek His guidance and blessings.
“This period of Ramadan has met us in Nigeria at a critical period. I do not see it as a mere coincidence that it falls within our political transition period.
“Let’s use the opportunity to thank Almighty Allah for the successes that we have so far recorded in the conduct of the general elections and to pray for a peaceful transition of power at the national and sub-national levels in the coming months.”
According to the Senate President, Nigeria has made some positive progress in its political journey and is still learning how to deal with “the regular obstacles that those who have gone further than us in the journey have also met.” As a result, we have many reasons to be grateful to Allah.”
Lawan then advised, “Equally, we should use the month of Ramadan to pray for the success of the incoming administrations at the federal and state levels as they will assume the onerous tasks of continuing the building of a virile and prosperous Nigeria.
