Ahead of the National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, the Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led Peoples Democratic Party Reconciliation Committee is set to brief the party’s National Working Committee on its findings and possible recommendations.
This briefing comes in preparation for a critical meeting of the PDP Governors Forum, which is scheduled to take place today.
Ok Monday, the Reconciliation Committee convened at the National Executive Committee Hall of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja to finalize its report, which it will present to the Amb. Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee. The NWC will then review the report and submit it to the NEC for ratification.
Speaking to reporters shortly after a meeting with the PDP National Assembly caucus that lasted over three hours, Chief Oyinlola explained, “As part of our assignment as members of the national reconciliation committee, we scheduled to meet members of the National Assembly so we can share in their experiences as to what is causing the dwindling fortunes of our party politically.”
He continued, “We’ve had useful discussions with them, and I think there are suggestions that we have our party to unite and remain formidable. That’s what has happened this evening (yesterday).”
Emphasizing the need for unity, Oyinlola said, “What are the things that will make your party stand strong that you come up with? One obvious thing is that for any party to be able to go into battle and win, it must be united. And that’s what we are going for.”
Regarding the upcoming Ondo governorship election, Oyinlola stated, “What we are putting into place is the national reconciliation committee, which has had its tour of the South-West, and the Ondo election came up prominently, and we are putting our strategies into place.”
He added, “Whom are you reconciling? Anybody that has any quarrel with anybody in the party are the ones we are reconciling.”
When asked about the possibility of recommendations for the suspension of some party members, Oyinlola dismissed it as speculation, “As far as we are concerned, I will take that one as rumours because we are meeting with the national working committee tomorrow (today). So after tomorrow, then you can ask me.”
In a related development, the PDP Governors Forum is expected to discuss whether the NEC meeting will proceed as scheduled or if a new date will be set. They will also deliberate on a possible agenda for the meeting.
