Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied rumours suggesting that he endorsed the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
It would be recalled that Tinubu had visited Obasanjo at the former President’s private penthouse residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library on Wednesday.
This visit was interpreted by some Nigerians as an endorsement of Tinubu’s candidacy by the former president.
However, Obasanjo while reacting to the rumours which claimed that he had endorsed Tinubu stated he never endorsed the candidate of the APC.
In a statement by Obasanjo’s Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Saturday, the former president said the statements coming from those claiming to be supporters of Tinubu are unhelpful.
According to the Vanguard, he said the discussion during the visit was “more brotherly than political.”
Obasanjo’s aide further said the former President has neither agreed nor disapproved of Tinubu’s ‘request’.
“Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing a statement on the discussion and those crediting to me statement I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good.”
