Leadership of the Organized Labour has arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to meet with President Bola Tinubu over the minimum wage.
The labour leaders, who arrived at the State House around 2 pm, were led by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, and the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Festus Osifo. They proceeded straight to the President’s office.
The agenda of the meeting was not made public, but it is likely connected to the ongoing minimum wage discussions.
Recently, the Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage submitted two different figures to the President. The organized private sector and the government team proposed N62,000, while the organized labour demanded N250,000.
Due to this disagreement, President Tinubu has delayed sending any figure to the National Assembly through an Executive Bill. He aims to consult with all relevant stakeholders to resolve the contentious issues surrounding the minimum wage.
