This is how the governor of Oyo State characterised the leadership retreat organised by the Nigeria Governors Forum in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme as a means of strengthening subnational governance.
Makinde, who is also the Vice Chairman of the NGF, made this announcement in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, on Sunday, following a three-day training on executive leadership.
The retreat, which was attended by 19 Nigerian state governors at the invitation of Rwandan President Paul Kagame, was focused on fostering dialogue on reimagining leadership and leveraging inventive technology, drawing inspiration from Rwanda’s transformative journey.
Themed ‘Reimagining leadership in a fast-changing world’, the participants engaged in sessions that explored Rwanda’s successful investment destination transformation in digital technology, urban planning and socio-economic transformation, and concluded with a private dialogue with President Kagame.
According to a joint release issued by Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, NGF Director of Media, and Christabel Chanda-Ginsberg, Head, Public Engagement, Outreach, and Partnership Lead, UNDP Nigeria, Makinde said, “It has been an engaging retreat.” I’m delighted a large number of governors are here to participate so that we may put our newfound knowledge to use.
“Our discussions have equipped us with adaptive leadership strategies and identifying pathways to effective governance and nationwide sustainable development.”
