The Labour Party in Cross River State has suffered another blow as Brian Odey, lawmaker representing Yala State Constituency 1 in the House of Assembly, defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Odey’s defection was formally announced over the weekend at a grand event in Yahe Ward of Yala Local Government Area, according to Daily Post.
The APC also welcomed Martins Achadu, representing Yala 2 State Constituency, who defected from the Labour Party in Ijiraga ward.
Speaker of the Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, received the defectors, praising their decision as strategic for the APC.
He stressed that Brian’s arrival is not only a personal joy for him, but also a victory for the APC, adding that his dedication and commitment to his constituents will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of our party.
The defection comes amidst a lingering leadership tussle within the Labour Party in Cross River State.
Both factions of the party, led by Ogar Osim and John Ushie, have notified the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission of their intention to field candidates in the upcoming Council elections scheduled for October 25, 2024.
“Brian’s arrival is not only a personal joy for me, but it is also a victory for the APC. His dedication and commitment to his constituents will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of our party,” the Speaker remarked.
