Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has expressed that his role in Love In Every Word may not be his best performance, despite the film’s massive popularity.
In an interview, Arukwe revealed his surprise at how quickly the film gained attention. He recalled the moment when the film’s director, Omoni Oboli, informed him of the upcoming premiere, saying, “I was shocked, nobody saw it coming. I was on set and then Omoni called and said we are premiering very soon, so just help me and post, and I was like okay mama. Just another day at work, and the next thing was—it took off.”
The romantic drama, directed by actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli, has garnered over 20 million views on YouTube within a month, positioning it as one of the most-watched Nigerian films in early 2025.
In the film, Arukwe portrays Odogwu Obiora, a wealthy Igbo man who lavishly showers his partner Chioma, played by Bamike “BamBam” Olawunmi, with love and luxury. While many fans lauded the film’s portrayal of love and affection in relationships, some critics argued that it painted Igbo men as overly soft or excessively generous.
Despite the film’s success, Arukwe downplayed his performance, stating, “I wouldn’t say it’s my best performance because I have done other Igbo-accented films that I was more prepared for, that I knew I was right there in the center of the character. This one was a walk in the park for me—not in a bad way—because I understood the guy already. I had gone through the script; it wasn’t hard.”
Arukwe also emphasized the importance of caring in relationships, asserting, “Caring for your partner is a sign of responsibility, not a weakness.”
He also praised his co-star BamBam for her professionalism and talent, noting that their on-screen chemistry contributed to the authenticity of their scenes.
“She brought great energy to the set, and our chemistry made the story believable,” Arukwe said.
