The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha, has advised politicians, their supporters, and voters to ensure peaceful conduct during the local government council elections scheduled for Saturday.
Onuoha stated that police personnel have been strategically deployed across the 21 local government areas to guarantee a hitch-free and successful election. He emphasized the importance of all stakeholders playing by the rules to ensure the exercise’s success.
The commissioner’s assurance comes as the State Independent Electoral Commission chairman, Mamman Nda-Eri, also appealed to the electorate to conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner.
To facilitate a smooth electoral process, Onuoha confirmed that travelers passing through Kogi State will have unrestricted movement during the election period.
However, residents are expected to adhere to the restriction order.
The KOSIEC chairman reminded voters to arrive at polling units by 8 a.m. and announced that polls will close at 3 p.m., with those in line allowed to cast their ballots. Meanwhile, 19 political parties are participating in the elections.
The police and electoral commission’s joint efforts aim to ensure a secure and successful electoral process in Kogi State.
“Officers and men along with other security agencies are already at strategic locations across the 21 LGAs to ensure that Saturday’s councils election is hitch-free free and successful.
“What we expect from the 19 political parties participating in this election is for them to play the game according to the rules for the good of all and sundry,” he said.
