Angry women from Oke-Ere, a community in the Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, took to the streets on Wednesday to express their outrage over what they described as the “endless reign of terror” in their area.
The protest, led by many elderly women, saw them marching through the town, chanting mournfully in their local dialect.
In a video obtained by The PUNCH on Wednesday, the women were seen half-naked, wielding sticks and leaves, as they cried out and sang about the frequent kidnappings, attacks, and killings plaguing their community.
Their plea to the government and security agencies was clear: they urgently called for intervention to halt the violence that has left them living in constant fear.
This demonstration comes on the heels of a distressing incident in March, when armed assailants kidnapped three people and wounded four others along the Ayere-Kabba Expressway.
The victims were later taken to St. John’s Hospital in Kabba for medical attention.
