Former governorship aspirant and a member of the Legacy Group faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State, Dr. Felix Akhabue, has announced his decision to leave the party.
In a letter addressed to the Ward 7 chairman of the Esan West Local Government Area, Akhabue cited the prejudicial activities of the party’s leadership against him as the primary reason for his departure.
“My decision to resign is born out of the glaring prejudicial activities of the party’s leadership against my fair, reasonable, and continuous participation as a member of the party,” he stated.
This decision comes amidst the backdrop of internal crisis within the ruling party in the state. The Legacy Group, led by the national vice chairman (south-south), Chief Dan Orbih, has been in conflict with the faction loyal to Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Recently, members of the Legacy Group threatened to work against the party in the upcoming governorship election on 21 September unless Governor Obaseki met certain conditions, including the removal of Mr. Omobayo Godwins as the deputy governor of the state.
