A Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Honesty Aginbatse, has filed a suit against the All Progressives Congress Edo State governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, for alleged age falsification.
The suit, filed at a Magistrates Court in Abuja in Thursday, accuses Okpebholo of forgery and perjury due to discrepancies in his birth dates on various documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, according to NaijaNews.
Aginbatse alleges that Okpebholo’s birth dates on his WAEC certificate, voter card, 2023 Senate nomination form, and 2024 governorship nomination form do not match, raising questions about his eligibility to run for governor.
If convicted, Okpebholo may be disqualified from running for governor due to offenses involving dishonesty or fraud, as stated in Section 182.1 (d) of the Nigerian Constitution.
He explained that “Under Section 182.1 (d) of the Nigerian Constitution, a conviction for offenses involving dishonesty or fraud disqualifies a person from running for governor, raising questions about Okpebholo’s eligibility if convicted“.
