The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has assured Nigerians that newly introduced strategies and modernized combat procedures will soon yield visible results in the fight against insecurity across the country.
According to The PUNCH, speaking through the Commander Ordnance Corps, Major General Henry Wesley, on Tuesday during a firepower demonstration at the Victor Kure Armour Range in Bauchi State, the army chief emphasized that adversaries of the state would soon feel the brunt of the military’s renewed offensive.
The exercise marked the climax of the 2025 Combat Arms Training Week, which brought together key army personnel for strategic evaluation and practical drills.
“This event is significant because it demonstrates our evolving capacity to confront threats more effectively,” Wesley said on behalf of the COAS. “We’ve refined our tactics, reviewed operational plans, and tested newly introduced doctrines alongside junior commanders and soldiers.”
He added, “The enemies may not be here physically, but they will soon feel the impact of what we’ve built. Already, the Federal Government has supplied advanced equipment and weapons, with more on the way.”
According to him, President Bola Tinubu remains committed to overhauling the security architecture, ensuring that the changes promised Nigerians are visible in ongoing operations.
Commander of the Armoured Corps, Major General Obinna Ajunwa, also noted that the week-long event created a platform to deliberate on crucial operational issues affecting the combat arms and the Nigerian Army at large.
“I commend the dedication of all officers, especially our retired senior colleagues who made time to witness this important phase of our training,” Ajunwa said.
The Army says it is optimistic that with the new operational approach and improved firepower, there will be a noticeable shift in the effectiveness of its counter-insurgency and internal security efforts.
