The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has debunked the news spreading of his desire to run for Bayelsa governorship position, stressing that he is not desperate for the post despite pressure.
The former Bayelsa State governor said this during a press conference, maintaining that a lot of people still believe that he has much to offer if he re-runs for the governorship position in the state.
“There has been a lot of pressure on me to come back to Bayelsa State because a lot of people feel that I still have a lot to contribute to the development of Bayelsa State. There is a lot to do as you can see.
“But serious speaking, I am still consulting. I am still reaching out because for me, the development of Bayelsa State is not one man’s project. And you will understand with me that, today, to become the governor of Bayelsa State is not an ambition to me. It is something that I have attained before. It is nothing that I really want to do anything to achieve by every means.”
According to Punch, Sylva stated the challenges in Bayelsa state to include flooding, erosion and lack of power and human capital development, adding that those were the major setbacks in the state.
It could be recalled that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources was the governor of Bayelsa state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2007 to 2008 when his election was nullified by the court.
Sylva made it on a re-run in 2012, then lost a return ticket and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
