Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has reportedly died on Wednesday in Lagos.
He was reportedly managed by State House doctors until his death before he could be flown abroad.
He was aged 67 years old.
The ailing governor returned to Nigeria in September following a three-month medical leave in Germany and only recently proceeded on another one after he was directed by President Bola Tinubu to hand over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
His deputy, Aiyedatiwa has been standing in as Acting Governor.
Aiyedatiwa had on Christmas day called on residents of the state to pray for the ailing and the state.
Aiyedatiwa, in his message to the Christians and the people of the state, congratulated them on the Christmas celebration.
He promised the people that the Akeredolu-led administration would continue to formulate and implement people-oriented and impactful policies and programmes towards the development of the state.
Following his return to Nigeria in September, Akeredolu stayed at his Ibadan residence, the Oyo State capital, governing the state from there, leading to public outrage.
