Air Peace has reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety as the foremost priority, stating that it has no regrets over flight delays or cancellations that were necessary to uphold air travel safety standards.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Head of Corporate Communications, Ejike Ndiulo, the airline emphasized that the disruptions, though inconvenient for passengers, were made in strict compliance with safety regulations.
The statement clarified that flight operations would not proceed if factors such as weather conditions, technical issues, or operational protocols fall below required safety thresholds.
“It is not our policy to delay or cancel flights without due cause, and when we do, we are often the greater loser financially.
“We will never sacrifice safety for convenience, comfort, speed or profit,” the airline stated.
Air Peace expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority for pushing for better standards in domestic airline operations and lauded its continued commitment to global aviation safety compliance.
Addressing recent concerns, the airline also pointed out that its disruptions were not due to fleet inadequacy.
“Therefore, any delays or cancellations we have experienced have absolutely nothing to do with fleet shortage,” it said.
It cited a specific incident on Friday where an aircraft encountered a bird strike during landing in Enugu, causing engine damage.
The aircraft was subsequently grounded, leading to a chain reaction of delays on several routes it was scheduled to cover.
“For instance, on Friday, one of our aircraft experienced a bird strike, which damaged the engine while landing in Enugu.
“The aircraft was immediately grounded and withdrawn from operation in accordance with safety protocol,” the statement read.
This clarification follows a meeting held on Friday between the airline’s management and the NCAA, prompted by a growing number of passenger complaints over recent flight disruptions.
