A wedding ceremony scheduled to take place at the Assemblies of God Church, Okpu 2, in Aba, Abia State, over the weekend, was abruptly cancelled by the church authorities due to the bride’s alleged failure to comply with the church’s pre-marriage protocols.
According to gathered information, the bride reportedly declined to spend the night at the church’s parsonage, where she was expected to undergo counseling by the wife of the officiating pastor on the eve of her wedding.
In line with the church’s established practices, it was also expected that the bride would undergo a pregnancy test prior to the ceremony.
Sources indicated that the bride had been duly informed of these requirements well in advance and initially consented, fully aware of the Assemblies of God Church’s doctrines.
However, she failed to appear at the designated time for the counseling session.
Commenting on the development, Promise Uzoma Okoro stated that “the bride’s refusal to stay at the parsonage, as required, prompted church authorities to cancel the wedding.”
The situation left many guests, who had gathered for the occasion, shocked and confused.
“Guests had already assembled for the event when the announcement was made,” Okoro revealed.
It remains unclear whether the bride and her fiancé sought an alternative officiant to conduct their wedding elsewhere.
As of the time of this report, neither the church leadership nor the couple had issued any official statement regarding the incident, leaving many questions unanswered.
