The National Youth Service Corps Members in Ota, Ogun State have on election eve (Friday), headed to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in preparation for the forthcoming election.
AmBusiness reports that Corps Members who registered as ad hoc staff during this election and have packed their luggage for a night sleepover close to their assigned polling units are on their way to the office of INEC.
According to some of the interviewed Corps members, their movement to the office of INEC is to get clear directives on the next steps to take in preparation for tomorrow’s election.
In preparation for the general elections which is slated to hold February 25, NYSC members have been deployed by INEC as ad hoc staff for the smooth running of the election.
Many of the Corps Members have been assigned special duties like Presiding Officer. PO is an officer who is in charge of the conduct of their polling stations.
Onyinyechi who is an ad hoc staff and has been given the position of a Presiding Officer said ” we are going to INEC’s office. When we get there, we will know what to do next. They probably will assign buses that would move us to our polling unit.”
NYSC in collaboration with INEC had during the training sessions last week informed NYSC members that they would sleep in locations that provided close to their assigned polling units.
Meanwhile, some of the Corps Members are not sure of where they would spend the night. They are however confident that the INEC in collaboration with Nigerian Youth Services Corp would have made provisions.
When asked about accommodation, Funmilayo, also an NYSC ad hoc staff member says, “I am not sure, but I think we may sleep inside the nearest schools to our polling unit.”
