The Yobe State House of Assembly has marked the completion of its first year by announcing significant legislative achievements.
Over the past year, the Assembly successfully passed eight out of ten bills, adopted ten resolutions, and addressed various petitions from the public.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Honourable Chiroma Buba Mashio, shared these accomplishments during the one-year anniversary celebration of the 8th Assembly, which took place at the House chambers, according to Daily Post.
Reflecting on the year’s work, Mashio highlighted some of the key pieces of legislation passed by the Assembly. These include the establishment of the Hisbah Commission, the creation of the State Public-Private Partnership and Investment Promotion Agency, and the State University Amendment Law. Additionally, the Assembly approved the 2024 Finance and Appropriation Bill and the 2024 Local Governments’ Harmonized Finance and Appropriation Bill.
“The remaining bills that are currently with various committees will be passed into law before the end of the second session of the Assembly,” Mashio assured attendees.
Mashio also reported on the handling of petitions received by the House. He explained that while some petitions were referred to the appropriate committees, others were addressed and resolved through fair hearings.
The Speaker reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to collaborating with the executive branch to further the democratic process and deliver tangible benefits to the people of Yobe State.
“I thank the staff and members of the House for their dedication and commitment to their legislative duties,” Mashio said, acknowledging their role in the Assembly’s successes.
He also praised the State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for fostering a strong and cooperative relationship with the legislature. “Governor Buni’s prompt attention to the bills and resolutions passed by the House has been instrumental in our legislative achievements,” Mashio stated.
