The African Democratic Congress national chairman, Ralph Nwosu, has explained why the party suspended its presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu.
Ralph who appeared on Channels TV on Saturday, said Kachikwu had made the party motionless, adding that he has refused to put in the work to make the ADC, a major third force in the country.
He added that following the party convention which elected Kachikwu as its presidential candidate, things have been going down in the party.
Ralph further revealed that the inactivity of the party’s presidential candidate frustrated him which made him offer to step down as the National chairman.
He explained his decision to step down as the party’s national chairman to allow the party to elect anyone the presidential candidate will be comfortable working with.
Ralph said, “A lot of things have been going on in ADC, especially after our national convention, alot of things has been going on. It’s been three months after the national convention. I have watched your clips today of how other parties are making consultations, they are opening their offices, they are doing different things and frankly, all the efforts we put in to build the third largest party in Nigeria, where we have 12 people contest for the presidency, immediately after the convention seems to be going down, and we though this shouldn’t be.
“We’ve been holding consultations with our presidential candidate, yet, we have discussed different things, he will say prepare this document, do this and the moment we finish doing that, another issue will come up, he’ll decide he was travelling oversees, he’s done oversees travel for more than 5 times, and each time we say, come we have all built this thing and we’ve gotten to this level; the third force was more or less my concept. I joined all different organisations, and even the labour organisation to join the ADC movement, and then we succeeded in having 12 people run for president, and all of a sudden ADC has been stampeded into almost motionlessness.
“There was a time, about 2 months ago when I thought that national chairman was the issue, I said, I’m ready to resign, maybe somebody that the candidate can work well with because I saw and I still see Dumebi winning the presidency, so when I thought maybe we couldn’t jam, I invited some people that I’m willing to step down.
The National chairman added that the suspension of Kachikwu happened following several attempts to get him to work towards winning the presidency which he recounts were retarding the growth of the party.
