Ahead of the Lagos State Governorship Election, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday pulled out of ThePlatform debate for governorship candidates in the state.
Sanwo-Olu, who is the incumbent governor of ‘City of Excellence’, is currently seeking re-election in the forthcoming governorship election in the State.
While he was expected to share the stage with other governorship candidates on Sunday, at ThePlatform debate, Sanwo-Olu, was conspicuously absent.
According to the moderator of the debate, Victor Oladokun, “the governor pulled out of the debate held on Sunday because he did not want to share the stage with an unnamed contestant”.
It was also added that Sanwo-Olu, would not be attending the debate in reaction to an inter-party attack over the weekend.
“On account of this incident which has already gone viral, Governor Sanwo-Olu through his spokesman, announced yesterday (Saturday) that the governor will be pulling out of the debate because he won’t want to share the stage with a particular candidate whose supporters allegedly carried out the attack,” the moderator said.
Participants at the debate include Olufunso Doherty of the African Democratic Congress, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party and Olajide Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party.
