The New Nigeria People’s Party has shed more light on the recent meeting that took place between the 2023 Presidential candidates of the Party, Eng Rabiu Kwankwaso and that of the Peoples Democratic Party, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
The update was given by the Spokesperson of the NNPP’s Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election, Ladipo Johnson while speaking with newsmen.
Premium Politics reported that the Kwankwaso received Atiku in his Abuja residence on Tuesday.
The photos of the two bigwigs in the political arena were posted on X, formally known as Twitter, by the Kwankwaso, who revealed that he hosted the former Vice President in his Abuja home.
“I was pleased to receive my brother, the former Vice President, His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, at my residence this evening.
I thank Waziri for this fraternal visit,” Kwankwaso wrote.
However, there have been speculations going around, following the meeting between the duo, with some people speculating that they both met to plan ahead of a possible rerun of the 2023 Presidential, which the case is currently in court.
Atiku had approached the court seeking the removal of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was declared the winner of the election.
Giving details of their meeting, Ladipo Johnson, said Kwankwaso and Atiku share similar national values and aspirations, despite being in different political parties.
He further explained while speaking with The Punch, that their beliefs in national unity was what brought them together.
“They believe in the unity of the country, and that is exactly what brought them together on Tuesday.
“They met in Kwankwaso’s residence, and they discussed the general state of affairs of the nation.
“You know the situation in the country is such that leaders who care about this country need to speak up. Apart from the affairs of the nation, they also discussed the situation in Niger and the best possible way to go about it, considering the action already taken by the military junta in that country.
“Politics is over; it is time to discuss the nation because without Nigeria first, none of us can play politics. Both men believe that Nigeria can be better. This is a belief they have both worked for in the past in their various and individual capacities,” Mr Johnson said.
