The newly appointed Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko, has publicly declared his commitment to the service of Rivers people.
Oko who declared his allegiance to Governor Siminialayi Fubara said he will collaborate with the Governor and the people of Rivers State to address pressing issues and improve the lives of citizens.
In his inaugural address to journalists in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Oko emphasized the importance of putting the needs of the people first.
He vowed that the state assembly under his leadership would prioritize the welfare and well-being of Rivers State citizens, working tirelessly to deliver positive outcomes and progress for the state, according to Daily Post
Oko’s commitment to collaborative governance and his focus on serving the people of Rivers State signal a promising start to his tenure as Speaker.
By working together with the executive branch and the citizens of the state, Oko aims to drive meaningful change and improvement in Rivers State.
He said: “We will brief the press and communicate our proceedings to the public and engage them, we will make sure that they are part of what we are doing. We will ensure that there is transparency and clarity in the 10th legislative assembly.
“I have directed the Clerk to notify the governor that a new leader has emerged in the Rivers State House of Assembly and we are ready to work for the Rivers people.”
Oko, who is loyal to Fubara, had taken the oath of office as the new Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Two members of the Rivers State House of Assembly elected Victor Jumbo as the speaker.
This development came barely 48 hours after Governor Fubara declared that the majority 27 Members of the House, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress was non-existent.
