Amidst the economic turbulence faced by the people, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has announced that money has been sent to the accounts of all lawmakers to help them enjoy their recess.
The Senate which suspended its recess, due to the just concluded screening of the ministerial nominees list, sent to the Chamber by President Bola Tinubu, went on recess on Monday.
While announcing the recess, Akpabio in a video that has gone viral was recorded saying that a “token” has been sent to the bank accounts of all senators.
“For all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our bank accounts by the clerk of the Senate,” Akpabio announced.
He however jokingly said, “To allow you to enjoy your holiday, the Senate president has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return.”
The announcement of the money sent to lawmakers’ accounts has been criticised by people because this is coming at a time citizens are bearing the brunt of the removal of fuel subsidies which has seriously affected the standard of leaving in the country.
The Senate will however reconvene on September 26th, 2023.
