President Bola Tinubu arrived in Berlin, Germany, on Monday for a three-day official visit to Germany and for the G20 summit.
He was welcomed by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Bellevue Palace, the official residence of the German head of state.
The two leaders held talks on bilateral relations, regional security, trade and investment, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Tinubu praised Germany as a strategic partner and a reliable friend of Nigeria, and expressed his appreciation for the German support in various sectors, such as health, education, energy, and agriculture. He also invited German businesses to invest more in Nigeria, especially in the areas of renewable energy, digital economy, and infrastructure.
President Steinmeier commended President Tinubu for his leadership and vision, and reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to deepen the cooperation with Nigeria, the largest economy and the most populous country in Africa. He also lauded Nigeria’s efforts in combating terrorism, promoting democracy, and fostering regional integration.
The two presidents also exchanged views on the situation in the Sahel region, the Lake Chad Basin, and the Horn of Africa, and agreed to work together to address the common challenges of peace, stability, and development. They also discussed the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and pledged to support the equitable distribution of vaccines and the strengthening of the health systems.
