Veteran Nigerian juju musician, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi, has dismissed reports of his death, declaring that he is alive, strong, and in good health.
In a video released on Tuesday morning, the music icon addressed the false claims with a lively musical performance. Switching between Yoruba, English, and Pidgin, Obey-Fabiyi sang, “Satan, you don lose o… Na lie lie you dey talk,” strongly rejecting the rumours of his death.
He followed the performance with a clear statement: “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.”
The rumour, which surfaced online late Monday, quickly went viral, prompting an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans.
However, his personal assistant, Tope Olukole, promptly countered the false reports in a Monday evening interview with TVC. “Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving! He recently celebrated a joyous occasion — the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse,” Olukole confirmed.
He added, “Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded. We’re glad to see him active and well.”
The death hoax comes just weeks after the music legend marked his 83rd birthday. Fans and associates have since been sharing relief and appreciation for the confirmation of his well-being.
