The New Nigeria Peoples Party has described the judgement of the Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal that sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as a miscarriage of justice.
The party said this in its reaction to the judgement given earlier on Wednesday by a three-man panel via Zoom.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the Acting National Chairman of the party, Abba Kawu Ali, in a statement issued on Wednesday evening, said it would appeal the ruling.
The party accused the tribunal of unjustly subtracting 165,663 votes from its votes to favour the All Progressives Congress.
The party also described the judgement as an affront to the constitutionalism.
This comes as the government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the state, which the police vowed to implement to the letter.
Earlier, Premium Politics reported that the tribunal sacked Governor Yusuf and declared the APC candidate in the 2023 election, Nasir Gawuna, as the winner.
The three-man panel ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return issued to Governor Yusuf by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The certificate will now be issued to Yusuf Gawuna of the APC.
Gawuna is the anointed candidate of the immediate former Governor and current APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Kabir Yusuf on the other hand was the anointed candidate of Ganduje’s political rival, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is also a former governor of the state.
In the petition, the APC asked the tribunal to nullify the victory of Kabir Yusuf on the grounds that the election was conducted in violation of the Electoral Act 2022, among others.
