Labour Party had expressed disappointment over the level of u preparedness of the Independent National Electoral Commission, to defend its case at the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Tribunal going on at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Making this disclosure in Abuja on Monday, shortly after the court adjourned resumption of its sitting, following the absence of the Commission’s first defence witness at the tribunal, LP’s legal counsel, Levi Uzoukwu stated that his camp has a strong case and more prepared to move on with the case, noting that the inconsistencies of INEC has been holding them down.
Uzoukwu, who commented during his chat with newsmen in front of the court, alleged that INEC does not have a strong case to defend.
“Given the contradictions_ and inconsistencies and what INEC has done; I’m sure they are not ready to defend this case,” Uzoukwu asserted.
“I stand to be proven wrong, but I would wish that they defend this matter so that the public will see more things of what happened to this election,” he stated.
However, he made it clear that such an election as February 25 presidential election has never been conducted in Nigeria, noting that it is the INEC’s choice to either call a witness or witnesses, adding that he and his client, the LP, are ready at all times, to defend their case.
