Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has called on the youths nationwide, not to allow themselves to be used, to cause chaos in the country.
This was contained in a statement issued by the National President of the Ohaneze Youth group of the organization, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, and made available to journalists.
The advice came following the judgement of the appeal court, on the 2023 Presidential Election Petition, coming up on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
It would be recalled that Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, as well as their parties, are challenging the victory of the then-candidate of the All Progressives Congress, President Bola Tinubu, in the election.
Atiku and Obi, who are the presidential candidates of the PDP and LP respectively, approached the court, to disqualify Tinubu, as the winner of the election.
However, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal had on Monday, said it would deliver judgement on the long-awaited lawsuit, on Wednesday.
Reacting to the development, Okwu said there were indications that politicians would “recruit youths as usual to protest the outcome of the judgement.
“We, however, advise youths across the country to resist the temptation; it is only in times like this that politicians remember the youths. Once they get what they want, we are forgotten.
“No youth should make himself a willing tool in the hands of these desperate politicians.”
He however reminded the youths that the Appeal Court was a first instance, noting that there is room for an appeal.
“Whatever is the outcome is still subject to the final judgement of the Supreme Court.
“We, however, appeal to security agencies not to harass or maim any Nigerian today; rather, they should secure the lives of citizens,” he added.
