A trending video featuring Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu being confronted by a woman during an event has been clarified as being stale.
The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, made the clarification on Wednesday stating that the incident occurred years ago and not recently, as some reports suggest.
In the video, the woman, whose identity remains unknown, directly questioned Sanwo-Olu about housing challenges in Lagos State. She asked, “What are you going to do about housing? Landlords get the rights… So what are you going to do about housing?”
As she spoke, the woman moved closer to the governor in what appeared to be an agitated manner, prompting the intervention of Sanwo-Olu’s security detail to maintain order. The video has drawn mixed reactions online, with some commending her for addressing a critical issue, while others questioned her approach.
However, Gawat, in a post on X.com, confirmed that the video dates back to January 28, 2019, during a public event hosted by Niteshift Coliseum in Opebi, Lagos. At the time, Sanwo-Olu was a governorship aspirant engaging the audience in a question-and-answer session.
Gawat stated, “TRENDING OLD VIDEO: This encounter here happened on January 28, 2019, when Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu was aspiring to be Governor of Lagos State. A young woman stood up to ask a question, just like others had done. She started being rude and raising her voice.
“No DSS or police attached to Mr Sanwo-Olu here.
“The event was organised by Niteshift Coliseum, Opebi.
“The event continued peacefully afterwards. #SayNoToFakeNews.”
