The absence of President Bola Tinubu from Nigeria has been a subject of public discourse and concern.
The President’s prolonged absence began following his participation in the World Economic Forum held in Saudi Arabia.
This event, which took place from April 28 to April 29, 2024, was a significant gathering aimed at addressing global challenges and fostering international collaboration.
President Tinubu’s itinerary included official visits to the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia, with his engagements in Saudi Arabia particularly focused on attracting investors and advancing his “Renewed Hope Agenda” for Nigeria.
Despite these important diplomatic efforts, his extended stay outside the country has led to widespread speculation and rumors concerning his health and leadership.
Amidst this backdrop of uncertainty, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, made a public statement to address these concerns.
On a televised interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Minister Alausa firmly refuted the rumors about the President’s health.
He reassured the nation that President Tinubu’s absence is not related to medical issues, but rather, it is part of his international commitments.
Minister Alausa further highlighted the government’s commitment to developing a robust healthcare system for the entire Nigerian population, emphasizing that the focus is on the welfare of the 220 million Nigerians, rather than solely on the President.
He said, “Let me tell you, we are developing a healthcare system for Nigerians, not for the President. We have 220 million Nigerians, and that’s what Mr. President wants.
“We have a president that is well, that is healthy and leading the country in the right direction.
“The president is getting some of his care in Nigeria.”
