The legal team of the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, has filed a request to the Court of Appeal in Abuja to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission to allow him access to sensitive materials it used for the presidential poll.
According to The PUNCH, Tinubu, through his lawyer, Mr Akintola Makinde, stated that he would need to review, scan, and photocopy some of the electoral materials in order to prepare his defense against petitions seeking to overturn his election.
While the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, were included as respondents in Tinubu’s first ex-parte application, which was filed on March 6, the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, were named as respondents in the second application, along with INEC.
According to Makinde, “The materials will be relevant in helping us to prepare our defence and also make comparison with the information contained in INEC’s back-end server.”
Tinubu’s application will be decided upon by the appellate court acting as the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal on Wednesday.
