President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the 18th Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Chambers of the State House in Abuja.
This meeting marks the first Federal Executive Council gathering in six weeks, following the President’s recent international engagements in Equatorial Guinea, China, and the United Kingdom.
The meeting, which started at 12:25 p.m., has 21 out of 47 cabinet members in attendance.
Notable attendees include Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari;
Others are, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.
Before commencing, the council members observed a minute of silence to honor Mrs. Salome Jankada, a former Minister of Women and Youth Development during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, who passed away on August 27, 2024.
Although the full agenda remains undisclosed, several ministry project proposals are expected to be presented for approval.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima is representing Nigeria at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, accompanied by some cabinet members.
In related news, President Tinubu recently addressed the UN General Assembly, through Shettima, emphasizing Africa’s potential and the need for global cooperation.
He highlighted the importance of fair partnerships, debt relief, and investment in critical industries, stressing that Africa is “not a problem to be avoided, nor is it to be pitied. Africa is nothing less than the key to the world’s future”.
