President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned a comprehensive survey of educational facilities in Nigeria, encompassing primary through tertiary institutions.
The survey will assess a variety of factors including the condition of school buildings, the availability of residential facilities, and the geographical distribution of educational institutions, as well as the existing educational infrastructure.
This initiative was disclosed by the president’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, in a recent statement.
The census will also collect detailed information on the total number of teachers across the country, their qualifications, the professional development they have received, and the demographics and academic performance of students at all levels of education.
The statement was entitled ‘President Tinubu establishes national education data system and approves skill development for all levels of education, teachers’ training and support nationwide.’
Additionally, the presidency announced the creation of a new online portal that will be managed by the Federal Ministry of Education and will be accessible to offices of state governors and local government chairpersons. This system will allow for the real-time monitoring and dissemination of educational data across various levels of government.
“This new data tracking architecture will enable the government to track the progress of students, thus having a clear data-driven mechanism for interventions, especially concerning out-of-school children, girls, and those with specific learning disabilities, among others,” the statement read.
Efforts to improve education for children not currently in school were also highlighted. The Federal Ministry of Education, through four of its agencies, is actively implementing these initiatives, which have already impacted approximately two million beneficiaries.
Furthermore, the statement touched upon the advancement and support of teachers, noting that the Ministry of Education will be providing training in digital skills to enable the effective use of technology in the classroom, aiming to enhance learning at all educational levels.
President Tinubu has also approved the National Skills Framework, which aims to diversify skills in the educational sector to better prepare Nigerian students for the workforce by imparting essential skills, knowledge, and values.
“The NSF is designed to provide the appropriate skills for each level of education that will result in the empowering of generations of Nigerians with the required aptitude for the evolving needs of the global economy of the 21st century,” the presidency explained.
The statement concluded by reassuring Nigerians that the implementation of these programs will significantly enhance the national education system, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
