President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on his victory at the Supreme Court on Friday.
President Tinubu had earlier congratulated Sanwo-Olu with a “warm handshake,” shortly after his meeting with the Progressives Governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, at the time the apex court delivered judgement on the appealed filed Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Lagos party, also reacted to the victory via a post by Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, on X.
The Supreme Court ended the legal battle between the governor, Rhodes-Vivour and his party, by dismissing the appeal filed by the duo in the March 18 governorship election in the state.
The LP and its candidate in their appeal, sought disqualification of Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamza, from the poll.
However, the apex court in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Garba Lawal, held that the allegations of renouncing Nigerian citizenship by the Lagos State Deputy Governor for the United States of America cannot be used to disqualify the respondents.
The apex court however threw out the appeal, saying that it lacked the merit for it to survive.
Akosile, while reacting, tweeted: “President @officialABAT today congratulated Governor @jidesanwoolu on the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his 2023 election victory.
“The President, while having a small bantering with the governors after Progressive Governors Forum’s meeting earlier today at the Villa, singled out Governor Sanwo-Olu for a warm handshake. Congratulations, dear boss.”
