Three Nigerians have been arrested in Libya for alleged involvement in drug trafficking, according to a report by Migrant Rescue Watch on Sunday.
The suspects were apprehended by the Samnu Police Department in southern Libya, during a special operation in the town of Samnu, located in the Murzuq district.
The area, known for smuggling and human trafficking due to its proximity to Libya’s southern borders, is a hotspot for illicit activities. The suspects were found in possession of a quantity of hashish, which police believe was intended for sale.
The statement released by Migrant Rescue Watch on X (formerly Twitter) read: “Samnu Police Dept. arrested 3 migrants of Nigerian nationality on charges of drug trafficking. The trio were found in possession of a quantity of hashish earmarked for sale. The case was referred to public prosecution.”
The identities of the suspects were not disclosed by the authorities, but they confirmed that the matter has been handed over to public prosecution for further investigation and legal action.
