The Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has zoned the state chairmanship position to the Central geopolitical zone.
This decision was unanimously taken at a caucus meeting held at the Government House in Jalingo, the state capital on Saturday.
According to former Nigerian ambassador to Pakistan, Idris Waziri, the party has equitably zoned the 11 positions to the three geopolitical zones to ensure fairness and justice.
The chairmanship position goes to the Central zone, while the deputy chairman and secretary positions go to the North and South zones, respectively, according to Daily Post.
Waziri emphasized that the party will not impose candidates on anyone and will continue to uphold equity, fairness, and justice in accordance with the constitution.
He expressed confidence in the party’s unity and organization, praising the leader’s commitment to the party’s progress and the state’s development. This decision aims to strengthen the party’s position for future elections in the state and nationwide.
“We have agreed to zone positions of the party in the interest of equity, fairness and justice so that every zone will be represented in the party at the state level.
“For now, we only zoned the 11 offices. Some of the executives are going while others are staying. A time will come when people will show their interest to contest elections or not. We are not going to impose candidates on anybody.
“The chairmanship position goes to the Central, the deputy chairman to the North and the secretary to South,” he stated.
“Nobody can take us unawares because our party is a solid and well organized party.
“We are also lucky that we have a leader who is committed, who is educated and willing to see the progress of not only our party but the entire state,” he added.
