A five-man panel of the Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the appeals filed by Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress challenging the outcome of the 2023 governorship elections in Bayelsa State.
Sylva challenged the declaration of Senator Douye Diri as the winner of the Bayelsa State governorship election.
The Supreme Court’s decision to reserve judgment means that a date will be set for the delivery of the verdict, which will determine the outcome of the appeals.
Sylva expressed confidence in the Nigerian judicial system and vowed to pursue justice, expressing dissatisfaction with the result of the election.
The Tribunal had in its judgment delivered May 17, 2024, in Abuja, upheld the election and the return of Senator Douye Diri and his deputy, Senator Lawrence Eruwjadkpo as lawfully elected governor and deputy respectively, leading Sylva to file for an appeal.
However, In July, the Court of Appeal Abuja dismissed the appeal to challenge the judgment of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
