The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially announced that Tuesday, April 29, 2025, will mark the first day of Zulki’ida 1446AH in the Islamic calendar.
This declaration was made through a statement issued by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
The statement confirmed that the decision followed the absence of any credible report from both the National Moon Sighting Committee and the Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee regarding the sighting of the new crescent moon on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
The statement further read: “Consequently, Monday, April 28, 2025, will be observed as the 30th day of Shawwal 1446AH, while Tuesday, April 29, 2025, will officially mark the beginning of Zulki’ida 1446AH.”
In his message, the Sultan extended his best wishes to the Muslim Ummah and urged continued prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity across the nation.
This declaration marks an important date for Muslims in Nigeria as they prepare for the new month in the Islamic calendar.
